Pasadena, CA – NASA’s Ingenuity team has identified a software solution for the command sequence issue identified on Sol 49 (April 9th) during a planned high-speed spin-up test of the helicopter’s rotors.
Over the weekend, the team considered and tested multiple potential solutions to this issue, concluding that minor modification and reinstallation of Ingenuity’s flight control software is the most robust path forward.
This software update will modify the process by which the two flight controllers boot up, allowing the hardware and software to safely transition to the flight state.
Modifications to the flight software are being independently reviewed and validated today and tomorrow in testbeds at JPL.
While the development of the new software change is straightforward, the process of validating it and completing its uplink to Ingenuity will take some time.
A detailed timeline for rescheduling the high-speed spin-up test and the first flight is still in process. The process of updating Ingenuity’s flight control software will follow established processes for validation with careful and deliberate steps to move the new software through the rover to the base station and then to the helicopter.

Once we have passed these milestones, we will prepare Ingenuity for its first flight, which will take several sols, or Mars days. Our best estimate of a targeted flight date is fluid right now, but we are working toward achieving these milestones and will set a flight date next week. We are confident in the team’s ability to work through this challenge and prepare for Ingenuity’s historic first controlled powered flight on another planet.
Ingenuity continues to be healthy on the surface on Mars. Critical functions such as power, communications, and thermal control are stable. It is not unexpected for a technology demonstration like this to encounter challenges that need to be worked in real time.
The high-risk, high-reward approach we have taken to the first powered, controlled flight on another planet allows us to push the performance envelope in ways we could not with a mission designed to last for years such as Perseverance. In Austin Peay’s lone match last week, Schlossmann partnered with Anton Damberg to clinch the doubles point when they beat Eastern Illinois’ Christos Kyrillou and Thomas Wallace (6-2).
The win marked Schlossmann and Damberg’s team-best third doubles win of the season, with all of their wins coming from the No. 1 line.
While playing No. 1 singles, Schlossmann battled back to pick up a three-set win over Eastern Illinois’ Daniel Hernandez (3-6, 6-1, 6-1), after dropping the first set. Schlossmann is one of three Governors to have won a team-best four singles matches this season and he has done it while playing No. 1 and No. 2 as a freshman.
Schlossmann is the first Austin Peay State University men’s tennis player to be named the OVC Player of the Week since Christian Edison received the award on March 27th, 2019. Schlossmann is also the first Austin Peay freshman to take home the OVC’s weekly player of the week honors since Almantas Ozelis was named OVC Player of the Week on April 12th, 2016.

Clarksville, TN – The Manna Café Ministries refuge will be open tonight for anyone displaced by the tornado activity.
The refuge is located at 503 D Street in Clarksville, Tennessee.
Clarksville, TN – The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) reports that at this time, they can confirm that three people are deceased, two adults and one child, as a result of the tornado that touched down this afternoon.
Additionally, 23 people have been treated at the hospital. We are still in this disaster’s search and rescue phase and will provide updates as we receive confirmation.
Montgomery County Mayor Wes Golden stated, “This is a sad day for our community. We are praying for those who are injured, lost loved ones, and lost their homes. This community pulls together like no other and we will be here until the end.”
“This is devastating news, and our hearts are broken for the families of those who lost loved ones. The City stands ready to help them in their time of grief,” said Clarksville Mayor Joe Pitts.

Stan Hembree has lived in the Woodlawn area his entire life, but until now, he's never experienced the feelings of fear that he's been living with this week.
"Everything is locked up," he said. "My wife is staying in the house. I haven't gotten any sleep in two days. I've been up two days straight."
Hembree lives on Lylewood Road, in the area authorities have been combing in their hunt for 53-year-old Kirby Wallace, wanted by authorities as a suspect in two slayings, two home invasions and a carjacking.
It's all hitting too close to home for Hembree, who found a dry sleeping bag and blanket on his property while on a perimeter check with authorities.
He said the authorities told him it was one of their best leads to date.
For Hembree, it was a worrisome development in a saga he wishes was over already. "He just needs to turn himself in," he said of Wallace.
But in the next breath, he admitted that if it were up to him, Kirby wouldn't get that opportunity.
"If he was standing in front of me, I'd shoot him," he stated bluntly.
And Hembree is not alone.
Area resident Rich Grossman is also armed, and said he would not hesitate to use his weapon if needed. "I wish he'd come into my yard. I'd shoot him," he said.
As for Hembree, he's still going about his business tending his 100-acre farm, despite directions from authorities to stay indoors.
"You've got to do what you've got to do," he explained.
But he admits the manhunt has taken a toll on both him and his wife, Kimberly, whose birthday they were supposed to celebrate today.
"She's scared to death. Today's her birthday. I was going to take her out, but we can't go nowhere," he said.
So he waits and watches, along with the rest of the neighborhood, hoping that today is the day authorities catch Wallace and restore some peace to his neighborhood.
Until then, Hembree and his neighbors will stay on alert, and on edge. "You don't feel safe nowhere," he said.

Woodlawn, TN – Representatives of the Montgomery County Government and the BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee Foundation recently gathered for a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the grand opening of the BlueCross Healthy Place at Woodlawn Park.
The Montgomery County Government applied for the BlueCross Healthy Place grant, sharing the positive impact a revitalized community space would have on the area.
“We are grateful that Woodlawn Park was chosen as a 2021 BlueCross Healthy Place site. Montgomery County has a fantastic parks system that continues to grow and improve,” said Montgomery County Mayor Jim Durrett.
“This space is bringing some much-needed state-of-the-art equipment updates to a deserving area of our community,” Durrett stated.
Grant applicants were invited to choose from six project packages based on the needs of their communities.

The Woodlawn project is one of 10 the BlueCross Foundation has funded in celebration of the company’s 75th anniversary, bringing the total statewide investment to $7.5 million for 2021.

“COVID-19 remains a threat to the health and wellbeing of the American public and our communities. Continued diligence in infection prevention and taking measures to control the spread is paramount in fighting this pandemic. However, we understand the important role that family and support personnel are to the maintenance of health and recovery in times of sickness, during surgery, and upon the birth of a new child,” said Col. Vincent B. Myers, hospital commander.
“In accordance with guidance from the CDC, the Army, and the Defense Health Agency in addition to where we stand at this point during the pandemic, I’m confident we may safely modify some of our COVID-19 visitation mitigation measures at this time to support our patients.”
Any person with a fever or symptoms of illness should refrain from accompanying the patient. Visitors with symptoms may be asked to depart the medical facility if symptoms are obvious to the staff. Patients and visitors may be asked screening questions upon entering clinical services.

Many businesses talk about giving back to the community but at the Woodlawn Papa Rock Travel Center, it’s a philosophy they live by.
They hold Customer Appreciation Days on the 1st and 15th of each month which gives each customer a free medium coffee, or a 32oz drink. They hold Military Appreciation Days on the 5th and 20th of each month. They also throw a gigantic Summer Bash for their customers around the end of August with live music, inflatables, and great food.
The Woodlawn Papa Rock Travel Center supports the Clarksville Ladies Club; cancer victims Ashley Nemeth and Justine Troester of Justine’s Journey; the Jackson Family, a military family whose home burned down; they are partners in education with Woodlawn Elementary School, the Stewart County High School booster Club, Northwest High School Athletic Program and the Yearbook, and the Clarksville-Montgomery County School System; American Cancer Society; the Military BBQ Fundraiser; and they support numerous sports teams throughout the area.

On Saturday, December 17th from 9:00am to 11:00am Santa Claus is coming to Woodlawn Papa Rock Travel Center. You are welcome to bring the kids out for an early visit from Santa! They will be giving out several golden tickets to special needs families on Saturday that will be redeemable with Santa at the Clarksville Riverwalk on Saturday Night.
Papa rock jumped up on board this year to help Gary Caudell in his mission to provide Christmas to area kids who are in need of toys. “The money the Woodlawn Papa Rock Travel Center provided helped us out a lot. we were able to add more locations to our itinerary this year,” Caudell said. Mr. Caudell helps Santa distribute gifts to children across 4 states. “We greatly appreciate all they have done to help bring a great Christmas to kids in our area! Without organizations like Papa rock we wouldn’t be able to do all we are currently doing in the community,” he said.

Clarksville, TN – There is approximately 3 to 4 more days of paving, and then a couple of days for installing new pavement markings.
Everything should be done by the end of next week, however, this will be dependent upon the weather – if it stays dry.
Rain is forecast for tomorrow and Friday morning, which will not allow work to be done. Plans are to work Saturday and Sunday, and all of next week, weather permitting.
Once the paving is done, the traffic delays should ease up somewhat, but until then, there will be temporary lane closures on a daily basis and motorists should try to seek an alternate route if all possible (or please allow addition time to reach their final destination if they do have to access College Street).
